The Group for Aeronautical Research and Technology in Europe (GARTEUR) is a research collaboration made up of Seven European countries – France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
It acts as a platform for groups of experts in various domains (aerodynamics; structures and materials; rotorcraft; systems, flight mechanics and integration; and aviation security) to come together and run projects at low TRLs in order to benchmark codes and methods, use experimental data for validation of codes and do initial studies of new technologies. Garteur covers civil and defence technology, but much of it is dual use at this early TRL stage.
Each technology domain is run by a ‘Group of Responsables – GoRs’ which coordinates the projects carried out within the domain. There are about 20 projects going on at any time, run by ‘action groups’ as well as a smaller number of exploratory activities, run by ‘exploratory groups’.
Garteur does not distribute R&D funds; participants – formed of universities, research performing organisations and companies – fund themselves. Each year Garteur produces an Annual Report outlining the main achievements and progress of each GoR and their associated action and exploratory groups. The latest Annual Report (2015), along with further information on the projects the different GoRs are working on or have worked on can be found on the Garteur website.
