Vacancy: Lead Technologist – Whole Aircraft

The Aerospace Technology Institute is looking for a Lead Technologist to join its Whole Aircraft team and act as the ATI’s  internal expert on fixed and rotary wing aircraft conceptual design and commercial aircraft requirements, and provide insightful input into the ATI’s technology strategy. As part of the role the Lead Technologist will maintain a working understanding of propulsion performance, structural design and the architecture of other key systems such as high lift, undercarriage, air conditioning, anti-icing, flight guidance, power and fuel.

 

The Role

  • Act as the ATI’s internal expert on fixed and rotary wing aircraft conceptual design and commercial aircraft requirements, and provide insightful input into the ATI’s technology strategy
  • Maintain a working understanding of propulsion performance, structural design and the architecture of other key systems such as high lift, undercarriage, air conditioning, anti-icing, flight guidance, power and fuel
  • Manage the creation and introduction of the less conventional conceptual design tool suite
  • Provide training and advice to UK companies on fixed and rotary wing aircraft conceptual design matters, and the possible ATI attribute consequences of their project proposals
  • Monitor ATI investment in research and capital projects with large aircraft content
  • Support provision of the Aircraft of the Future input to the ATI strategy
  • Provide assessment of Strategic Review Committee projects from an aircraft attributes perspective
  • Support the working level relationships (in conjunction with ATI relationship managers) with key aerospace company aircraft design specialists to maintain understanding of their capabilities, needs and expectations
  • Provide expert advice internally and increase the collective knowledge of the Institute on the subject matter
  • Encourage more radical thinking in areas for technology and capability research amongst Aircraft of the Future community
  • Support ATI’s Aircraft of the Future-related Conference and Symposium interactions and the Specialist Advisory Group
  • Monitor published aircraft conceptual design research and capability developments
  • Support groups interested in conceptual aircraft design

The Candidate

Background and Experience

  • Will have demonstrable in-depth knowledge of fixed and rotary wing aircraft conceptual design and commercial aircraft requirements, gained through educational and working experience

Education

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Mathematics or Physical Sciences

  • Self-starter with great energy and drive to deliver

  • Comfortable with an elevated level of ambiguity
