We have submitted a response to the House of Commons Science and Technology inquiry into the government’s plans for a new UK research funding agency modelled on DARPA.
The ATI is supportive of a new high-risk, high-reward funding agency. For the proposed agency to be truly effective, it is vital that it is given a large degree of independence and is given genuine autonomy to identify and commission early stage high potential research projects. Such an approach will allow it to carve out a place in the UK’s existing innovation ecosystem, contributing to the government’s intention to increase R&D intensity in the UK.
