Over the next 12 months this new leadership team and I will be supporting a team of around 100 experts from across UK aerospace to investigate the design challenges, manufacturing demands and market opportunity of potential zero-emission aircraft concepts. Our mission is to make zero-carbon emission commercial flight a reality by the end of the decade with the intention of gearing up the UK to stand at the forefront of sustainable flight in design, manufacture, technology and skills.

The appointments announced are:

• Dr Katy Milne, Head of Industrial Strategy

• Mark Howard, Head of Commercial Strategy

• Naresh Kumar, Head of Sustainability

I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work with a team which brings an abundance of knowledge and experience from across our industry including Rolls-Royce, Airbus, GKN Aerospace, Spirit AeroSystems, MTC Catapult, ATI and academia. Today’s announcement is another exciting milestone in FlyZero’s inception and I know I speak on behalf of the team when I say we are eager to start exploring the technical and commercial issues in creating a radically new zero-carbon emission commercial aircraft.

This feasibility stage of the project will be concept studies to consolidate and assess the existing knowledge frontiers that need developing and to guide the direction of the future delivery phase of the project.
