HCN gets global landscaping research projects underway

The ATI’s Hydrogen Capability Network (HCN) has started research projects on materials, thermofluids, and health & safety following the completion of a tendering process.

In July 2024, the Hydrogen Capability Network (HCN) asked for proposals to support its future research development work in materials, thermofluids, and health & safety. The HCN has worked closely with industry and the research community to shape the priority topics with outputs from specialist workshops recently been published here.

An understanding in these three topics of the global landscape in experimental and modelling capabilities, research investment, and gaps in international knowledge is vital in shaping strategies and plans for the UK.

After a highly competitive tendering process, the successful consortiums were:

  • Materials: The University of Sheffield will be leading a work package investigating the current materials landscape with support from OxRAD consulting.
  • Thermofluids and Health & Safety: The University of Nottingham and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) jointly will be leading the work packages on current thermofluids and the health & safety landscapes.
  • All: These organisations will be supported by a consortium of industry experts called HyBAG.

Kick off meetings and work packages have started in earnest in September 2024. The consortiums will be engaging with experts through questionnaires, interviews, and workshops to gather knowledge of the global landscape. If you would like to contribute please email hydrogen@ati.org.uk.

Outputs from the work packages will include reports and information which will be shared through the HCN networks and websites.
