Chris Gear

Chris is the current VP Global Engineering for GKN Aerospace and holds an MSc Degree in Aircraft Design from Cranfield College of Aeronautics. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. With 36 years experience in the aerospace industry, Chris specialises in the design of aircraft components and ensuring products meet the customer’s technical specifications and airworthiness authorities certification requirements. He has extensive knowledge on composite and metallic materials and an in-depth knowledge of aircraft product design and manufacturing processes.

Chris completed his student apprenticeship at Dowty Aerospace and spent 15 years working in Engineering for Dowty on Landing Gears, Composite Propellers and Power Control Systems. In 1991 Chris joined Westland Aerostructures as Engineer in Charge leading the design on several composite structures and turboprop nacelles.

In his current role he is the VP Global Engineering for GKN Aerospace Group. Chris has links with Cranfield, Bath, and Bristol Universities and mentors students through the Institute of Mechanical Engineers. He also spends time supporting and eveloping the engineers within GKN.
