Stephen trained as a student apprentice in mechanical engineering at Wellworthy Ltd. Subsequently he worked as a research engineer at BHRA in Cranfield and then joined HMGCC. He became CEO in 1998 and left to join the management buyout of Hunting Engineering in 2001. When the business was sold to Lockheed Martin in 2005, he became the Managing Director of the business and was appointed Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin UK in 2009. He remained in that role until his retirement in 2016.
In additional to his chairmanship of the ATI Board, Stephen now has a portfolio of non-executive and advisory roles in high tech businesses and organisations.
