This role will form a critical part of the overall Executive Management Team (EMT) with responsibility for all aspects of ATI’s engagement to secure an enduring commitment as well as leading a team of experts and the ATI's international outreach.

Summary

Since its setup in 2014, the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) has largely had the same stable leadership team. During that period, the ATI’s role and profile has changed substantially. The CEO is now taking the opportunity to rethink the structure, skills, type of individuals and energy required for the next phase of the ATI’s growth. This role will form a critical part of the overall Executive Management Team (EMT), as well as having its own distinct responsibilities as outlined below. The EMT includes the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Relationships Officer, Chief Innovation Officer and Chief Operations Officer.

The ATI must continue to innovate how it delivers and take a leading role in the development of technologies to meet zero emission targets for aviation. The ATI believes that equality, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace are essential to achieving these ambitious objectives.

About the role

The Chief Relationships Officer (CRO) will take responsibility for all aspects of ATI’s engagement to secure an enduring commitment as well as leading a team of experts and the ATI's international outreach. Main responsibilities include:

  • Lead Government engagement, covering political parties and government departments, in seeking to keep ATI sold as critical to the UK aerospace industry.
  • Lead ATI sector outreach and engagement. Covering all UK regions and companies ranging from SMEs to large corporates.
  • Lead the marketing and communications function.
  • Lead the activity required to compile evidence of the ATI investment success.
  • Lead the ATI international outreach and engagement where appropriate to give the UK collaborative advantage.
  • Lead the stakeholder management process, approach, and tool to deliver a successful engagement strategy for all stakeholders.
  • Manage the approach and delivery of ATI led events, ranging from a Technology Conference (every two years) to regular recurring events.

The role will initially have two direct reports, the Head of Communications, and the Head of International R&D and Policy Engagement. Together these ‘Heads of’ currently have a further four staff reports.

About you

The ATI has a complex mission, a broad stakeholder group and unique position to deliver results for the UK’s economy and aerospace sector. To succeed we need strong individuals, leaders and team players who are capable and have demonstrated:

  • The ability to develop and deliver trust to stakeholders whilst engaging in commercially sensitive discussions.

Candidates will be experienced in some or all aspects of the role but at the very least have experience of managing a diverse team. Ideally applicants will have experience of working for or with the public sector and/or worked in government affairs. They will require focus, energy, and the commitment to deliver a critical service to the business with right personality to fit into the dynamic of the ATI. Although not essential, experience of the aerospace sector and technology innovation is desired.

Process and timeline

Those chosen for interview will initially meet the CEO for a first interview. Those successful in being selected through first interview will then be interviewed by the nominations committee made up of the ATI’s independent non-executive directors, the chairman and CEO. This role is immediately available, and the CEO is seeking to reach conclusion as soon as is reasonably possible.
