About the Role

The ATI is seeking an HR Manager to join the team, reporting to the Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Finance. This role is based in Cranfield, with regular travel to ATI’s London office.

As a small business, the HR Manager is responsible for the overall HR function at ATI. This includes ensuring efficient and thorough delivery of day-to-day operational tasks and more strategic activities to develop ATI as a high-performance organisation. Partly to support HR objectives, the ATI has set up a cross-departmental team of volunteers to help the HR Manager develop the learning, development, culture and teaming programme.

The role presents an opportunity for the candidate to grow their general HR experience, demonstrate ownership of core HR activities and handle a wide range of challenges. The role will also influence the development of a small and relatively young organisation.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the whole employee life-cycle, from induction to exit
  • Driving day-to-day HR operations including recruitment, input to payroll, employee benefits and associated suppliers
  • Leading on employee relations and other personnel issues, supporting line managers and employees with professional advice
  • Developing and overseeing the ATI’s performance management approach
  • Leading the ATI’s cross-company training programme
  • Managing Health & Safety for the Institute
  • Leading introduction of a new HR IT platform, to enhance the HR experience
  • Monitoring and reviewing HR policies and processes, updating when necessary
  • Reporting HR metrics to the Remuneration Committee on an annual basis
  • Reporting on key HR activities and metrics to the Executive Management Team on a monthly basis.

About You

The ATI is looking for a candidate with a solid foundation of HR training, a desire to develop their HR skills and an interest in shaping the HR agenda of a small professional business like the ATI. We are looking for someone who is well organised, deliver-oriented, self-starting and is motivated to make a positive difference to the performance and culture of the organisation.

Experience should include:

  • Solid operational HR experience, preferably in a small team or in a stand-alone role
  • CIPD Level 5 qualified, or actively working towards Level 5
  • Solid knowledge of employment legislation and its application, demonstrated ability to keep up to date
  • Working in highly-professional business settings

  • Self-motivated and able to work under own autonomy or collaboratively as part of a team
  • Well organised, able to develop workplans and manage to deadlines
  • An ability to maintain confidentiality and act with discretion and diplomacy
  • Comfortable interacting with people across and at all levels of an organisation, demonstrating good judgement, self-awareness and sensitivity
  • Excellent communication skills, able to write and present clearly and succinctly
  • Good IT (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and communications skills are expected.
