Management Accountant

We are looking for a highly-capable Management Accountant to join our small Finance team. This is a full-time role which reports to the Head of Finance. The role is based in our Cranfield office, with occasional travel to London as required.

About the role

The Management Accountant will be an integral part of our small finance team, reporting directly to the Head of Finance and working closely with the other members of the department.

The role is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and will be responsible for supporting the preparation of management accounts, forecasts and annual budgets, as well as assisting in the performance of processes and procedures regarding industrial contributions.

The role is based at our Cranfield office, with some infrequent travel to the ATI’s London office, and other UK locations of stakeholders, as required.

The main responsibilities of the Management Accountant will include the following:

Management Accounting

  • Assist with the performance of the monthly management accounts in accordance with the month end timetable
  • Preparation of accruals and prepayments
  • Prepare and post journal entries as required
  • Maintain the fixed asset register, performing monthly journal entries and analysis
  • Assist with the preparation of the management account packs for Executive Management Team (EMT) and Board

Balance Sheet

  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations in a timely and accurate manner
  • Resolve reconciling items on a regular basis
  • Provide support and assistance in the preparation of audit and tax packs 

Budgets and Forecasts

  • Assist with the performance of quarterly forecasts and annual budgets, in accordance with agreed deadlines

Cash

  • Post bank entries
  • Produce weekly bank reconciliations
  • Assist with monthly cash flow forecast
  • Assist with the production and review process of supplier payments

Industrial Contributions

  • Assist with processes and procedures to ensure that industrial contributions are invoiced on a quarterly basis
  • Assist with reporting on a weekly/monthly basis
  • Perform credit control activities as required
  • Assist with resolving lead partner issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Ensure all correspondence and reporting is complete, accurate and organised

Other

  • Work with the Head of Finance and other members of the finance team to continually improve and develop the Institute’s Finance processes and procedures
  • Provide support to and cover for members of the Finance team as required
  • Any other duties as requested by the Head of Finance

About you

  • A strong basic level of education and be actively studying towards a recognised professional accounting qualification (e.g. ACCA/CIMA)
  • A minimum of 2 years accounting & finance experience (essential) and possess a thorough understanding of core accounting principles, i.e. double entry accounting, and accruals & prepayments
  • The ability to demonstrate high levels of accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to effectively prioritise workload and meet deadlines as required
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels in a diligent and professional manner
  • The candidate should be a pro-active and naturally inquisitive self-starter, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team or independently
  • The candidate must be at least of intermediate standard with Microsoft Office packages, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience of using SAGE and Concur would be beneficial, but not essential
