Reporting to the Head of Technology for Strategy & Integration this role will be an important part of our Technology team. The role is based in Cranfield, with regular travel to London and other non-ATI sites as required.

About the Role

We are looking for a personable, enthusiastic, and highly capable Technologist to join our aerospace Technology team (up to Senior Technologist level). Reporting to the Head of Technology for Strategy & Integration, the role will be an important part of our Technology team. This role is based in Cranfield, with regular travel to London and other non-ATI sites as required.

As a Technologist within our team, you will be responsible for expanding our technical knowledge and capabilities, building our external networks, and inspiring the sector to raise their R&T ambitions in the UK.

You will work alongside industry, government departments, relevant committees, research centres and academia to develop strategies for key areas within our technology scope. You will have a hands-on role encouraging the creation of consortia that will deliver research and technology programmes partly funded by the ATI programme. You will engage with relevant internal specialists, external stakeholders and national and international committees to drive our strategic agendas.

  • Support the delivery of ATI’s sustainability initiative, investigating technology solutions relevant to this area, driving programmes and interacting with external stakeholders and committees
  • Coordinate the reporting and delivery of ATI project portfolio insights, strategy, roadmapping and technology opportunities for the future portfolio
  • Support the coordination of ATI’s technology working groups., including project management of technology working group initiatives
  • Lead the delivery of the dissemination of the ATI technology strategy including online resources, insights, blogs and presentations at events and conferences
  • Support on the planning and delivery of future ATI technology strategies
  • Contributing to the ongoing improvement of ATI processes

About You

You will be a self-starter with great energy, a drive to deliver and a real passion for your job.

The ideal candidate will be a specialist with a broad scope of understanding across a number of technical areas within the aerospace/aviation sector that has now an interest in developing into a strategy function.

Key Criteria:

  • Degree qualified in Engineering, Mathematics or Physical Sciences
  • Post-graduate studies preferable
  • Demonstrate consistent achievement in aerospace technology and may be active in the community through membership of relevant industry committees and/or publication and conferences
  • Can demonstrate competence in the following areas of technology:
    • Business and innovation strategy, preferably within an R&T function
    • Environment and sustainability in aviation or similar sector
    • Leading the definition of technology/research activities.
  • May have led research and technology projects in industry or in academia with industry partners
  • May demonstrate a working knowledge of UK or EU government funding for research & technology programmes

  • Comfortable with a high level of ambiguity
  • Good at influencing other people
  • Good networker
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
