Fast Make Technologies

Today’s parts-to-demonstrator projects and engine production programmes are subject to accelerated lead times. To meet these compressed timescales, while also maintaining the high-quality requirements of aerospace design and manufacture, new and innovative manufacturing and modelling technologies are required.

SAMULET (Strategic Affordable Manufacturing in the UK through Leading Environmental Technologies) is a collaborative programme to accelerate the development of manufacturing and product technologies. It focuses on productivity and environmental improvements, including efficient advanced manufacturing processes and lower engine fuel consumption. The research focuses on improved turbomachinery, combustion and transmission systems, and a broad range of existing and novel manufacturing processes.

SAMULET II Project 10: FastMake delivers a rapid manufacturing capability for aerospace applications. It requires an integrated approach and brings together ‘fast business processes’, ‘fast make’ and ‘fast processing’ to achieve a step change in development lead-times. This capability will maximise timely technology insertion to enhance product competitiveness. The results of the research will be validated and delivered by the manufacture of first-off parts and system demonstrations.
