Gary Elliott

Gary Elliott is the founding chief executive of the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI).

Gary Elliott has been in post since the organisation’s inception in 2014. Under Gary’s leadership, the ATI has become a key catalyst in shaping the UK’s aerospace technology landscape through a bold, market-focused strategy that integrates government policy, industrial priorities and cutting-edge research.

In his time at the ATI Gary has cultivated relationships across the global aerospace ecosystem, engaging regularly with key stakeholders including senior government officials, multinational corporations, SMEs, academia, regulatory bodies and the investment community. His ability to connect diverse players within the innovation value chain has helped ensure the UK aerospace sector remains globally competitive.

Before founding the ATI, Gary was the inaugural CEO of Hybrid Air Vehicles, a pioneering airship company. Earlier in his career, Gary held a series of senior leadership positions at BAE Systems, NG Bailey, and Lloyds Banking Group, gaining broad experience across engineering, infrastructure, finance and international markets.

Gary holds a First-Class Honours degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Queen’s University Belfast and an MBA from Cranfield School of Management. With a career spanning advanced technology, strategic investment and global leadership, Gary continues to be a transformative figure in the aerospace sector—driving innovation, sustainability, and industrial growth for the UK.
