ABOUT US

The Aerospace Technology Institute is an independent not-for-profit organisation working in partnership with UK government and industry to enhance the competitiveness of the UK aerospace sector through technology leadership and funding.

Our story partnering for growth

The ATI was established out of the Aerospace Growth Partnership and is funded equally by the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and by industrial recipients of project grants.

We set a challenging vision for the UK sector through our technology strategy, and fund a portfolio of research and technology (R&T) activity to realise it, exploiting the sector’s strengths to the full and creating new capabilities for the future market. We manage our portfolio with a focus on performance, technology diversity and long-term value creation. Our investments span ultra-efficient and zero-carbon flight technologies, digital design, advanced manufacturing, and cross-cutting innovations that deliver benefits across the entire aerospace ecosystem.

Each investment is a partnership between government and industry. Every pound of public investment is matched by private commitment, ensuring shared ownership and a clear focus on impact. This co-investment model creates a powerful multiplier effect, turning early-stage ideas into world-leading capabilities that shape the industry’s future.

Our vision for the sector

The ATI’s vision for the sector is to increase the UK share of the global aerospace market from $9 billion in 2025 to over $18 billion by 2035, creating high value jobs across the UK and global leadership in decarbonisation.

Our mission

Transforming aerospace through technology and innovation.

The ATI will invest in the best technologies and create opportunities for the UK aerospace market to succeed. We will drive innovation, create partnerships and provide independent advice and leadership to the sector.
