Since 2024, the value of the UK aerospace sector has grown by US$1 billion and is on track to double its market value by 2035, driven by sustained investment in research and development, innovation, skills and advanced manufacturing. The ATI’s latest impact report demonstrates how our work is helping translate this ambition into sustainable economic growth, high-value jobs and long-term competitiveness.
Analysis shows that every £1 invested in aerospace R&D can generate up to £14 in economic output over time, creating benefits that extend well beyond the sector and reinforcing the case for continued support for innovation.
In 2025/26 alone, the ATI Programme, which supports UK aerospace research and technology development, invested £313 million of joint government and industry funding for projects across the country, including SMEs developing advanced manufacturing, artificial intelligence, hydrogen-electric propulsion and low-emission aviation technologies. These investments bring the total ATI Programme funding since 2014 to more than £4.2 billion, helping to develop the technologies, capabilities and supply chains needed to secure the UK’s share of future global aerospace programmes.
These commitments are strengthening the UK’s position as a global aerospace leader, attracting private capital, improving productivity and supporting businesses of all sizes throughout the nations and regions.
The report highlights major technology and industrial milestones, growing regional impact, and the role of ATI Programme-backed research and technology in creating high-value jobs, boosting productivity and supporting the transition to net zero aviation. Together, these achievements demonstrate how aerospace R&D is delivering value today while laying the foundations for sustainable long-term growth and future competitiveness.
The ATI Programme is delivered in partnership between the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI), Department for Business, Innovation, Science and Trade (BIST) and Innovate UK.
