In the Budget yesterday the chancellor named aerospace as one of the sectors with the biggest growth potential while confirming the government’s commitment to £975m of funding for the ATI Programme from 2026 to 2030.Responding to the commitment, Gary Elliott, CEO, ATI said: “The chancellor’s commitment to almost £1bn for aerospace R&D in yesterday’s Budget reaffirms the vital role the sector plays in delivering growth for the UK, attracting inward investment and unlocking the potential of sustainable technologies. When matched with industry funding this amounts to over £2bn of investment in the ultra-efficient, zero-carbon and cross-cutting technologies the UK is advancing on our journey to Destination Zero.“This year, the ATI marked ten years of transforming aerospace through technology and innovation. This long-term certainty in support for R&D is crucial at a time the sector is ramping up rates to meet today’s demand while delivering ambitious technology programmes to bring next generation aircraft technologies to reality. Aerospace is an engine for growth across the regions and nations of the UK and ATI Programme funding to at least 2030 will support the sector in building on our strengths and maintaining world-leading capabilities.”The ATI Programme is delivered in partnership with the Department for Business Trade and Innovate UK.
