New Outline Stage application process for the Strategic Programme from 2026

The ATI is introducing a new streamlined Outline Stage application process for the Strategic Programme, with a presentation to a panel replacing the existing form-based EOI process from January 2026. If you plan to submit your application from January 2026 onwards, please view the guidance via this link.

Strategic Programme (2025)

The ATI's flagship funding programme enabling technology research and development for the benefit of the UK aerospace sector delivering clean growth. This guidance applies to applications submitted in 2025 only.

  • Funding ratio of 60:40

  • Two stage application process

  • A 2.5% industrial contribution to the ATI applies to successful applications

  • Applications must align with Destination Zero

SME Programme

A funding programme tailored to the needs of SMEs to strengthen and further encourage technology innovation within the supply chain and civil aerospace sector.

  • At least 50% of the total eligible project costs must go to micro, small and/or medium business in your consortium

  • Grants up to £1.5m

  • 12 to 36 months in duration

  • Applications must align with Destination Zero

Non-CO2 Programme

A funding programme for the development of innovative technologies to reduce aircraft non-CO2 emissions and their climate impacts.

  • Forms the industrial arm of the wider Aviation Non-CO2 Programme

  • A 2.5% industrial contribution to the ATI applies to successful applications

  • Applications must align with the Non-CO2 Technologies Roadmap

Funding areas

The ATI works in partnership with the Department for Business & Trade (DBT) and Innovate UK to offer funding streams designed to accelerate innovation in the UK to maintain global competitiveness. All projects submitted must align with the UK aerospace technology strategy, Destination Zero, which identifies the following priority areas: zero-carbon emission aircraft technologies, ultra-efficient aircraft technologies, cross-cutting enablers and non-CO2 technologies.
