ATI and AMRC host South Yorkshire Roadshow
South Yorkshire was the latest stop on our journey to Destination Zero as we welcomed the region’s innovators from across aerospace and advanced manufacturing to the AMRC’s Factory 2050.
The ATI and University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) welcomed more than 60 delegates to a roadshow event at Factory 2050 on Wednesday 19th July.
The event, less than a week since the Chancellor’s visit to announce South Yorkshire as the UK’s first Investment Zone, gave attendees an introduction to the ATI, AMRC and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) and provided a valuable networking opportunity.
Presentations from Chief Relationships Officer Sophie Lane and Head of Innovation and Sustainability Maria Nelson offered an introduction to the ATI and support available through the ATI Programme and ATI Hub.
Andrew Gates, Assistant Director – External Affairs, at SYMCA gave an overview of the technology capability and investment strategy in the region in the context of national and international change, championing cross sector capability.
A panel session on the importance of digitisation in manufacturing saw experts from some of the region’s aerospace and manufacturing organisations join the ATI and AMRC on stage including Boeing, Hybrid Air Vehicles, Razor, Technicut and Tribosonics.
The event came less than a week on from the announcement of South Yorkshire as the UK’s first Investment Zone which included £29.5m ATI funding for the groundbreaking research and development facility, COMPASS (Composites at Speed and Scale). The project will see Boeing partner with Spirit AeroSystems, Loop Technologies and AMRC to de-risk and develop high-rate sustainable structures, with the potential to reduce large component process times from ~40 hours to ~four hours.
