Head of Technology: Advanced Systems & Propulsion

Technology

Tom has over 20 years of experience in managing teams and providing specialist technical advice to develop power system solutions across the aerospace, marine, nuclear, automotive and consumer goods sectors.

The bulk of his early career was spent on gas turbine design and analysis, with particular highlights including managing the conceptual stages of UltraFan structural design, the development of gas turbine generators for the UK Aircraft Carriers, and leading Rolls-Royce’s Whole Engine Structural Design and Load Transfer Product System Family.

Tom moved out of aerospace for a short period, working at Dyson where he led on high-speed motor and battery pack research, and design and development for a range of future products.

He built a strong appreciation of the challenges of inserting SME-developed technology into the aerospace sector; joining HiETA as Technical Director and readying their F1 championship winning additively manufactured heat exchangers for aircraft application.  He also led the team through acquisitions into Meggitt’s Engine Systems business and subsequently Parker Hannifin, ultimately leading to the establishment of Parker Aerospace’s Additive Research Centre in the UK.

Tom holds a first-class degree in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Bristol and in his spare time can usually be found outdoors sailing, mountain biking and skiing with his young family.
