ATI launches new initiative aiming to catalyse innovation in aviation’s drive to Net Zero 2050

A new initiative from the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) is aiming to create the conditions for innovation to flourish in aerospace, accelerating the sector’s transition to the zero-carbon and ultra-efficient technologies required to reach Net Zero 2050.

The ATI Hub, launched today, has been created for aerospace innovators to connect, access expertise, and collaborate. Organisations of all sizes, from start-ups to established SMEs and large industrials, from within aerospace and from adjacent sectors, can benefit from regular events, tools and thought leadership that will allow them to build capability, accelerate collaboration, and unlock growth potential across the sector.

This will take the form of remote and in person clinics, workshops, showcases and more, as well as access to online resources. The ATI Hub will help organisations engage with technology and sector experts from the ATI and beyond, navigate the aerospace sector including the funding and regulatory landscape, obtain insights into developing trends.

Harry Malins, chief innovation officer said: “Innovation is at the heart of aerospace. Flight itself is one of the biggest innovations in history, and from its early days, the sector has been innovating continuously, in increments and in step changes. But the transformation ahead of us will be the biggest challenge and opportunity yet: to deliver clean, sustainable growth and increase competitiveness for decades to come.

“To reach Destination Zero we need to innovate further and faster than ever before leveraging cross-sector lessons on the shared goal of reducing and eliminating carbon emissions. The ATI Hub is setting out to consolidate and accelerate the work that needs to happen across the sector.”

For established sector players as much as for new entrants, the transformation to Net Zero will be the challenge of a lifetime and will drive innovation akin to the advent of the jet age. It will require new expertise, collaboration and investment at unprecedented speed and scale. It will create a wealth of business opportunities for forward-thinking organisations.

The ATI Hub has been created for the benefit of a wide ecosystem of innovators including established industry players of all sizes, new entrants to aerospace, research organisations including academia as well as investors, regulators, policymakers and other enablers collaborating with innovators to build the aerospace industry of tomorrow.

From today, this network will benefit from online resources and access to experts in the ATI to support their bespoke requirements and ambitions. This initial offer includes:
