Lead Technologist: Advanced Systems & Propulsion

Kiran joined the ATI in 2020 as Lead Technologist for Systems. He works within the Advanced Systems and Propulsion team and leads on strategy development, investment evaluation and stakeholder engagement for several systems topics including avionics, landing systems, sensors, prognostics and health monitoring systems, fuel systems, power electronics, machines and drives, and autonomous systems.

He chairs the ATI’s ZC-TAG (Zero Carbon Technology Advisory Group) whose purpose is to steer strategy in zero carbon emission aircraft technologies and to identify, address any challenges, gaps in implementing the strategy. He has been a member of, and keen contributor to, several external advisory groups and boards. These include the ADS SESIG (Systems and Equipment Special Interest Group), DER and DER-IC (Driving the Electric Revolution-Industrialisation Centre) and EPSRC FEMM (Future Electrical Machines Manufacturing) Hub.

He started his career at Collins Aerospace (an RTX business) in Plymouth, UK where he spent close to 12 years in the design and development of MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical-Systems) inertial sensors for defence and commercial applications. His experience at Collins Aerospace spanned several areas including technology strategy, technology and product development, team management, project leadership and management, problem solving, IP administration, innovation management and developing external interfaces.

He has a multi-disciplinary educational background with a BEng in Electronics and Communications Engineering from PES Institute of Technology, India, a PhD in Mechanical and Systems Engineering from Newcastle University, UK and an Executive MBA from Warwick Business School, UK. He is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the IET.
